Planning Module stable version is now available. And it’s getting rave reviews! Find out more here…

Planning Module for activeCollab is now available to Reports module customers! We launched the beta version yesterday.

What is the Planning Module for activeCollab?
Planning Module lets you manage your project plans 5 times faster (or more!) It shows 3 views – a collapsible tree like outline view (with milestones, tickets and tasks); a card view focused on managing tickets; and a Gantt view of your plan! You can edit project’s plan using Outline and Card views, and it’s really easy and fast!

This is a beta release – there are known issues and limitations. There may even be bugs. We advise you to buy it keeping this in mind.

Only for Reports module customers for now?

Yes, for now, the Planning module is available at a heavy discount to Reports module customers. Planning module will be sold at $149 when it’s stable. Reports module customers can buy it now for only $99! That’s a huge $50 discount. We may open up for other customers as we progress. Once it reaches stable version, it will certainly be available to all.

If you do the math, this is still a good deal! Reports module is $39. If you buy it, you get Planning module for $99. That’s still a $11 discount from their prices! Want to try? Go ahead and buy Reports module. You will get instructions on buying Planning module in an email.

Nirav, do modules (Planning and Reports) shiped with source code open or compiled?

2 appsMagnet Team May 13, 2009 at 4:20 am

Hi John,

Planning and Reports module come with PHP Source code. The frontend for both is in Flash, and we do not distribute Flex source code that generates those .swf files.

You are free to modify the PHP source code for your own use, but can not distribute them.

I’m just evaluating the hosted version, at the moment, can PM for AC2 be installed like any other add-on? Is Reports module also installable on AC2 hosted like any other add-on?

Nirav, I have one more important question. I just noticed that in demo I can see only one project at a time in Gantt and tree-view.

Is it possible to see all projects in Gantt and tree-view simultaneously? It’s very-very important for us to have such feature, because 30-60 rinning projects become hell to be managed daily =)

Planning module currently supports Gantt view / Tree view of only one project. We will have multi project support in the future.

Both Planning module and Reports module can be installed on your own server just like any other add-on. They have their individual system requirements but you can host them on your own.

Is there any documentation available on reporting module ?

You can view the available documentation for Reports module here.

Planning module is still in beta, so we don’t have finalized documentation yet.

This looks so promising and useful…but I find it so unfortunate it is being built with flex and output to flash.

If I purchase this module (which I really want to do), I will not be able to customize any of the UI.

Any functionality that the Flex UI provides that is atypical can easily be accomplished with jQuery or MooTools…just pick your poison. Outside of animated charts, I really don’t see the point of using anything output to flash in this module. Why cant this use standard views like other modules? This would allow the flexibility for users to skin their views to their pleasing.

Anyways…I think I have an idea for a solution to this that will satisfy many parties.

The only way I can see working around this is having a css.xml file that is imported into Flex and sets the user’s color/ui images based on the data in the xml file. However, it will be up to you the programmer to build in this support for us.

I have purchased the reports module and could get a discount on this product, but I would gladly pay full price for this module if it has a way like this to customize the look and feel of the ui.

Hope my suggestion helps.

@Wes: I agree that since Planning / Reports module are built in Flex, it’s not easy to customize their look and feel. One thing we have done in recent versions is to wrap the SWF embed code in a div, so that you can do some basic styling with HTML CSS.

In future, we may consider separating the Flex styling in an external CSS so that customers could update it.

Are there any usability improvements you suggest in current versions? We are glad to take them on higher priority.

Thanks.

You plan to release PM on that week as you say in May.
Is it deleyng? Is there a roadmap for it?

15 appsMagnet Team July 18, 2009 at 7:10 am

We are working on this. Sorry for the delay. Adding Pages and Checklist support (apart from Tickets) is taking longer than we thought! And we are also fixing bugs found in beta testing. Planning module will have Gantt chart support.

I know many people are anxiously waiting for this. Please give us few more days.

I’m a report customer how do I get the Planning module. Also, since its primary code is in flex how will it look on mobile devices such as the iphone.

18 appsMagnet Team July 27, 2009 at 7:00 pm

Where to buy Planning module from (for Reports module customers)
The link to buy Planning module is in the same email that has link to download the Reports module. Look near the end of the email – you will see a note about this special offer and a link to purchase Planning module beta.

Planning module UI
Planning (and Reports) module interfaces are in Flex. And hence they won’t work on iPhone. We have not tested these modules with mobile browsers. You also can’t change the interface of these modules. The PHP backend is available though, and you can hack it for your own use if you want.

Most of the text can be translated. But we are aware that some words don’t still translate in Planning (and Reports) modules. We will be taking care of this in an upcoming upgrade. Thank you for your patience!
