First week of November 2009 is going to be eventful for AppsMagnet. Last week was launch of Planning Module 1.2.1 and ac Journal, this week we are launching 4 items for activeCollab:
- Upgrade to Reports module – now with People and System reports
- Smart Backup module – incremental backups for activeCollab
- Housekeeping module – automated maintenance for activeCollab
- Project Template hack – copy pages and discussions when you create a new project from template
Reports module is the biggest item for this week.
After the launch, the latest updates will be pushed to acGarage customers. acGarage customer will get Smart Backup, Housekeeping module and Project Template hacks for free. As a matter of fact, we started Housekeeping module as a special service to acGarage customers and now offering it to everyone.
But the week won’t end there. Near the end of the week, we will also begin a major upgrade to PlannerX. We aim to bring PlannerX close to Planning Module for activeCollab in terms of features. It’s going to be a big upgrade and will be rolled around November end.

How’s the upgrade coming? Will it be released soon? I work in a creative services department that is looking for a new project management system, but generating exportable/printable task reports by person is more important for us than hourly reporting. Also being able to run quarterly reports based on clients is important too. If the reports upgrade will allow for both of these, it could make AC a serious contender for us.

Thanks for stopping by! The upgrade is coming along well – albeit slower than expected. activeCollab has a feature called “assignments” which will allow you to see items assigned to a person and then print it in a nice format. Setup a demo account with activeCollab and try it out.
The upcoming release of Reports module will allow you to see projects and people reports by clients, and also show you system usage statistics by clients. People and Project reports can be filtered by date. What are you specifically looking for in quarterly client reports?

Hi, Nirav. Thanks for the tip on the assignments filter. While
it is printable, it isn’t exportable, nor can the printed format be
customized with regard to column ordering, resizing, etc. I assume some of that could be changed by altering the print CSS files, though. Regarding client and project reporting, at the end of each quarter, we run a report of projects that have are completed and
closed out within specific date ranges. Again, this would have to be exportable to something like a csv/excel document. If your reporting upgrade allowed for this, it would put AC in the realm of possibility for us.
Do you also do any custome development for AC users? If
so, is there a way I can contact you for more information?
Silently: Housekeeping module out! It was only available to acGarage customers so far, now everyone can have it. It will save you many hours of system administration!

How are you guys coming on the PlannerX upgrade? Anxiously awaiting some of the promised fixes for special character support.
Our plans got off track – one because of delays on our side, and second because of changes from Basecamp – specifically addition of due dates on todos and the new account system. We will be making changes to PlannerX to accommodate them and will release soon after Basecamp does the first round of Accounts migration.
We will be sending a notification to PlannerX customers next week about this.
