Installation and Setup - Planning Module

Installing Planning module is easy. It involves uploading module files to server, activating the module and allowing access to the module via system roles. This article describes the installation process for Planning module and Ticket hacks for activeCollab.

NOTE: Please also install acHacks included with Planning module. They are required install from activeCollab 2.3 onwards.

Here’s the process

1. Upload

  1. Extract Planning module installation package and upload content of for-upload folder to your activeCollab server using FTP or SFTP client.
  2. Make sure you upload it within your activeCollab folder. Match activeCollab folder hierarchy with extracted folders to confirm.

2. Install

  1. Login to your activeCollab installation as administrator.
  2. Go to Administration -> Modules.
  3. You should see Planning in Available modules.
  4. Click on the Install button. Wait for installation to complete.
  5. Planning module will be installed.

3. Configuration

Planning module is not visible by default. To enable it:

  1. Go to Administration -> Roles
  2. Edit a System Role you want to enable Planning Module for.
  3. Check “Yes” for can_see_planning and / or can_update_planning.
  4. Submit and save the role.
  5. Repeat this for any other roles as needed.
  6. Planning Module should now be available as a tab after selecting a project.

4. Planning data in activeCollab

  • Planning module adds extra fields to activeCollab to help plan things better. These fields (estimate, start date, workflow status etc) won’t be visible in activeCollab UI by default.
  • We have modified some core aC files to show this data in Tickets section of aC. These hacks are available only for aC 2.1+ versions for now.
  • Refer to files in the ac-hacks folder and upload them to correct locations in your aC installation.
  • The ac2.1+ folder hacks have been tested with activeCollab 2.1.2+ and activeCollab 2.2+ beta version. (Same files will work for stable and beta)

NOTE: Please also install acHacks included with Planning module. They are required install from activeCollab 2.3 onwards.

CAUTION: Backup your existing aC files before overwriting them with our hacks.

You may need to delete all files in the “compile” folder within aC for the new changes to work.
