New avatar of Communications module – less clicks, more talk

  • Communications module - Channels and Live Chat - annotated
this entry has 2 Comments/ in Communications, News / by Malay Ladu
March 21, 2014

Communications module has always been about easy, formal or impromptu, live discussions for your teams and clients. We’ve recently did a complete overhaul and you can see the results in the annotated screenshot above!

  • Each “communication” is now called a “channel”
  • When you click on “Communications” icon in bottom bar of activeCollab, you now directly get to the latest channel. We got rid of the intermediate dialog box.
  • The design is modern and clutter free. Less clicks, more talk!
  • You can continue to control exactly who can participate in a channel, upload files, get sound notifications and more…

What do you think of the redesign? Post a comment and let us know!

For us it is difficult to use the Communications module. We need to be able to have a live communication tool we can use within a specific project and save it to that project. Furthermore, we also, at times, want to only include certain members within that project and to only notify those included in the communication and not everyone within the project etc. A private option also would be good.

@Neil: You can do most of what you need with Communications module.

You can do “live” communications. (But we moved it out of the Project in last version. All communication channels are now accessible directly from “Communications” link in activeCollab bottom bar)

If you wanted to refer the communication channel in a project, you can use it’s link URL anywhere in activeCollab. Post it in a discussion / task / comment / project description… So that people can quickly reach the project’s channel.

You can select all people or a set of people from a project (or otherwise) while creating a channel.

Communication channels are “confidential” – meaning only those people who are explicitly assigned to a communication can see it. This is better than Private in most cases.

      HTH.
